Parks, neighbourhoods and who Oakville suits.
Oakville is a lakeshore town in Halton Region, just west of Mississauga, with 213,759 residents in 2021 after 10.3% growth since 2016. Its median household income of $128,000 was second only to Caledon's among the 10 cities outside Toronto covered here, and it had the highest average sale price of those cities in October 2026. Two Lakeshore West GO stations and the QEW tie it to Toronto.
Oakville's identity is built around its two harbours and its old downtown. Bronte, on the west side, centres on Bronte Harbour and the waterfront park on Ontario Street, while Old Oakville runs along Lakeshore Road with Erchless Estate and the Oakville Museum on the grounds by the water. Coronation Park, between Third Line and Fourth Line, is laid out for group outings with five large bookable picnic areas. On the western edge, Bronte Creek Provincial Park adds hiking trails and a Children's Farm. The population is less immigrant-heavy than in Peel or York: 41.2% of residents in private households were immigrants in 2021, and the most common non-official mother tongues were Mandarin, Arabic and Spanish. Sheridan's Trafalgar Campus gives the town a college presence, and Oakville Transit runs local buses plus a curb-to-curb Ride On-Demand service.
