Milton's housing is young. Only 5.4% of homes were built before 1961, a stock that includes Old Milton's 19th-century houses, while 73% went up between 2001 and 2021 in newer neighbourhoods such as Hawthorne Village, Dempsey, Beaty and Clarke. Single-detached houses are the majority at 56.7%, but Milton has an unusually high share of row houses, 22.8% of all homes, plus 9.4% semi-detached. Apartments are a small part of the market, with 5.5% of homes in buildings of five or more storeys and 4.8% in low-rise buildings. Ownership is high at 82.6%. Renting is not cheap where it exists: the median rent in 2021 was $2,200 a month, higher than in Burlington ($1,660) or Ajax ($1,600), and only 17.4% of households rent.

Milton is a fast-growing town in Halton Region, set against the Niagara Escarpment west of Mississauga and north of Oakville. Its population rose 20.7% between 2016 and 2021 to 132,979, and most of its homes are less than 25 years old. Highway 401 cuts through the town and the Milton GO line ends here.
Milton grew from a grist mill on Sixteen Mile Creek and was incorporated as a town in 1857, and the historic town hall still stands in Victoria Park downtown. The downtown hosts a Saturday farmers' market on Main Street from May through October and a street festival each June. The town sits on the Niagara Escarpment, and Conservation Halton runs several parks on it: Kelso has a lake, beach and the Glen Eden ski hill, and Rattlesnake Point is known for its cliff-top lookouts and climbing. The Bruce Trail passes through as well. The Mattamy National Cycling Centre, which opened in 2015, is home to Cycling Canada's headquarters. Country Heritage Park and the Halton County Radial Railway museum are both in Milton. A large share of residents are newer arrivals, with 42.1% born outside Canada and Urdu the most common mother tongue after English.
