TRREB recorded 74 Ajax sales in October 2026 at an average of $918,704 and a median of $812,750. Detached houses accounted for 59 sales at an average of $993,878, freehold townhouses 5 sales at $682,180 and condo apartments 4 sales at $528,125. Ajax was tighter than Milton, Burlington or Caledon: 304 active listings at month end, 3.1 months of inventory on TRREB's trend measure, homes selling at 97% of list price and an average of 30 days on market. Prices were still below last year: the composite MLS HPI benchmark was $826,900, down 5.35%.
Most of Ajax was built over three decades. About 21.6% of today's homes date from the 1980s, 14.3% from the 1990s and 26.9% from 2001 to 2010, while only 7% predate 1961. Single-detached houses are the standard at 64.7% of homes, and freehold row houses add another 15.2%. Apartments are limited: 6.7% of households live in buildings of five or more storeys and 4.1% in low-rise apartments, so condo buyers have fewer choices than in Burlington. Duplex flats are 3.5% of homes, higher than in Milton or Caledon. Ownership is high at 83.5%, and the median rent in 2021 was $1,600 a month.

Parks, neighbourhoods and who Ajax suits.
Ajax is a lakeshore town in Durham Region, east of Toronto on Lake Ontario. It grew around a wartime munitions plant and is named after HMS Ajax, a Royal Navy cruiser. Today it is a compact, mostly suburban town of 126,666 people on 66.64 km², with Highway 401 splitting it in half and six kilometres of parkland along Lake Ontario.
Ajax's history is unusually specific: the town grew up around the Defence Industries Limited munitions plant during the Second World War, and its name came from a staff naming contest honouring HMS Ajax. Veterans' Point Gardens at the foot of Harwood Avenue marks that naval past with a memorial designed like a ship. The waterfront is the town's main outdoor asset, with six kilometres of lakeside parkland and a paved trail of more than seven kilometres that forms part of the Waterfront Trail and the Trans-Canada Trail. Rotary Park at the mouth of Duffins Creek has a beach and boardwalk, and Lion's Point is the highest spot along the shore. Ajax Downs, a casino near Kingston Road and Audley Road, is also in town. The population is diverse, with 64.6% identifying as a visible minority in 2021 and Tamil the most common non-official mother tongue.
